Police search for robber after $145 taken from gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said surveillance video shows a man wanted for robbing a Sams Mart gas station on Woodlawn Road in south Charlotte.

The video shows a man casually entering the store, grabbing a drink from a cooler and walking to the front to pay for it like any other customer.

"When I opened the cash register, he showed me the gun and said, 'Hey, give me the money,'" said the store's clerk, who asked not to be identified.

The store clerk said the robber pointed the gun at him, took $145 and ran.

Police described the robber as in his late 20s or early 30s. They said he's about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. The video shows the man wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

The store's clerk is still shaken up and said he hopes police catch the robber. He said no amount of money is worth losing his life.

"That's all I can do, just give him the money," the clerk said. "I can't control people like that."
