Police: Woman hit with baton, punched, kicked during Huntersville robbery

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Police arrested two people and are looking for a third person who they said brutally beat a woman and held a man at gunpoint during a robbery Tuesday night in Huntersville.

Authorities said suspects with bandanas partially covering their faces went into an apartment on Landings Drive; two were armed with handguns and the third was armed with an expandable baton.

During the robbery, a woman was hit multiple times with the baton and punched and kicked in the face and head. She was taken to the hospital.

A man in the apartment was held at gunpoint and robbed.

The suspects fled the scene on foot.

“You are used to this area being a pretty quiet; family, friends neighborhood,” neighbor Terrence Duggins said.

Patrol officers circulated the area and located two possible suspects, who were later positively identified by one of the victims.

Jamiel Blackwell, 21, and Serbraun Thompson, 18, face several charges including robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

"You start wondering if this is the place you want to be,” Duggins said.

Records show Blackwell worked at a dairy farm for a few months last year.

"I'm surprised to hear home invasion,” said Andy Gray, owner of the dairy farm. “I wouldn't have expected that out of him. He was learning how to work and how to exist outside of school."

Authorities are searching for three more people of interest in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Andrew Dempski at 704-464-5400 or North Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-896-7867.
