DAVIDSON, N.C. — A portion of Interstate 77 was shut down in Davidson following an overnight police chase that began in Mooresville, officials said.
The southbound lanes of I-77 were blocked at Griffith Street and investigators told Channel 9 a chase that started in Mooresville ended in a crash around 3:30 a.m.
Crews worked to clear the scene and the interstate was reopened by 5:45 a.m.
Authorities in Mooresville said witnesses noticed four suspicious people at a commercial business and called police. One suspect ran from the scene while the other three took off in a car.
Officers chased that vehicle southbound on I-77 until the car crashed near exit 30. All three people in the car were taken into custody.
Officials said two people in the vehicle were taken to Lake Norman Regional, but they're expected to survive.
The driver was identified as 48-year-old Rayfield Taylor. The passengers were Timothy Hayes, 34, and Douglas Dellinger, 39. All three are from Charlotte, officials said.
