Portion of north Charlotte road to close for storm drainage system installation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Delays are expected in north Charlotte starting Mondy, when crews will close a section of North Tryon Street, in front of the Channel 9 station between Dalton Avenue and 24th Street to install a storm drainage system that is connected to the North Tryon business corridor.

Watch the video above as Channel 9's Mark Taylor continues to follow the developments of the project and the lane closures.

Channel 9’s Mark Taylor has been monitoring the $20 million project since its conception. The actual construction started in January.

The project will include street improvements, such as safer pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, new sidewalks, new landscaping and decorative lighting along North Tryon Street between Dalton Avenue and 30th Street.

A new road will tie in North Church Street with North Tryon Street to allow two lanes of traffic to flow in each direction, similar to the split of Kenilworth and Scott avenues in Dilworth.

With lane closures expected for the next couple of weeks, delays are also certain during morning and afternoon rush hours.

Commuters can use Graham Street to get around those delays. Construction is expected to be complete by early to mid-2020.
