CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A portion of South Tryon Street in southeast Charlotte was blocked early Monday after a driver crashed into a utility pole.
The crash happened at about 1:15 a.m. on South Tryon Street at Beam Road.
Duke Energy crews arrived around 3 a.m. to repair the damaged power pole, which still had the car wedged beneath it.
Police say the driver was heading outbound on South Tryon Street when he swerved to miss something in the road and crashed into the pole, which has a transformer on top of it.
Officials told Channel 9 that the driver suffered minor injuries and will be OK.
Duke Energy said there were more than 4,000 customers without power in the area but that power was restored by 8:40 a.m.
Crews expect to have one outbound lane of South Tryon Street and the Beam Road turn lane closed until at least 7 a.m.
