Officials ID postal worker killed after tree falls on mail truck

DENVER, N.C. — A 43-year-old female mail carrier died Saturday afternoon in Denver when a large tree fell on her United State Postal Service vehicle and pinned her inside.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office identified her as Lisa Rudisill Wilkerson of  Sherrill's Ford.
 
The incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. as Wilkerson delivered mail on Norman Court off Lakeshore Road North. A thunderstorm was moving through the area at the time of the incident. Wilkerson died at the scene.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

The accident happened on U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry's property. He released the following statement:

"While visiting family out of state, I received word from neighbors of this tragic accident. Giulia and I are beyond devastated. We are praying for the victim and her family as they mourn their loss."

McHenry is working with the USPS and the sheriff's department to reach out to Wilkerson's family.
