Quail Hollow cleanup could take weeks as PGA moves out

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The excitement of the PGA Championship in Charlotte is over, but the cleanup is just beginning at Quail Hollow Country Club in south Charlotte.

Crews on Monday started breaking down structures that had been built specifically for the major tournament.

PGA officials said it will take weeks, even months, to completely clean up everything.

They’re taking down structures that are equivalent to a 30-story office tower. Some of the tents that were built over the club’s tennis courts will take weeks to disassemble.

Crews will have to remove all of the products from inside the buildings, and undo all of the electrical wiring and air conditioning units that were installed.

“Amazing at how many plants they have out there,” Shelly Boyd said. “I’m like, 'What are they going to do with all those plants?'”

Shoppers have packed the golf shop because everything with the PGA logo on it is 50 percent off. Those who want to purchase merchandise are being told to park at Charlotte Catholic High School, and shuttles will take them to the shop. The store is open until 5 p.m. Monday.

“This is just a thank you to everyone that came to the event, our volunteers, and again, with this small percentage remaining, it’s a great give-back, we feel,” said Mike Qurik, with PGA Merchandise.
