Hurricane Matthew contributed to a record year for the American Red Cross.
The group responded to 15 major weather-related disasters in 2016, which is 50 percent more than 2015.
Red Cross volunteers fanned out to floods in the southeast, wildfires out west and Hurricane Matthew in October.

The storm impacted five states, including North and South Carolina. It was the biggest response for the Red Cross since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
“We’re still in the community, responding to Matthew, and we’re still helping people get back on their feet,” said American Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern. “We’re healing them in the new recovery process.”
The Red Cross served more than one million meals to families impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
