Report: CMS student robbed at gunpoint near Garinger High School

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a reported robbery involving a 16-year-old Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools student, and two possible suspects.

According to the police report, the student said one suspect approached him around 2:20 p.m. Thursday, asked for his cellphone, then took it without his consent.

The teenage victim then followed the suspect to Terrybrook Lane, where the suspect and one other person both pulled out guns and robbed him.

The victim told police the suspects stole items including his backpack and his shoes.

In an email Friday, a spokeswoman for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district said it was aware of the reported robbery.

CMS said the safety of its students and staff is a top priority, and the district will take extra security measures as needed.
