Report: NC gender gap for equal pay among smallest in nation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new report -- released on "National Equal Pay Day" -- reveals that North Carolina has one of the smallest gender gaps for equal pay -- although there's still a long way to go before earnings are equal between men and women.

On average, women make about 78 cents for every dollar a man earns.

Obama to visit Charlotte to discuss women in workplace

In North Carolina women earn 82.8 cents to every dollar, which is the eighth best in the nation.

New York had the smallest gap -- at 85.8 cents, while Louisiana had the worst -- at 68.9 cents.

There is one North Carolina town where women out-earn men. According to Forbes, in Wilmington women earn two percent more than men.
