Report: South Carolina faces teacher shortage

SOUTH CAROLINA — South Carolina is facing the biggest teacher shortage it’s seen in years.

An annual report just released from Winthrop University shows that more than 5,000 teachers leave the state's public schools each year.

Only 2,000 education majors graduate from state colleges each year.

Experts said it's critical to recruit and retain good teachers.

They recommend putting more money in next year's state budget to help future teachers pay off their student loans.
