Trump met Wednesday with NC Gov. McCrory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Outgoing North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory flew to New York City Wednesday morning to meet with President-elect Donald Trump, according to Trump's transition team.

The pool of news reporters who follow Trump reports that McCrory arrived at Trump Tower just after 10 a.m. but did not talk to the media. It's not clear if the meeting will be for a job interview to be on the next president's team.

McCrory conceded the governor’s race to Democrat Roy Cooper on Monday. The meeting with Trump has left some wondering if this will help keep McCrory's political career alive.

"We've seen many instances of politicians who have been defeated by much larger margins than Pat McCrory being able to make comebacks, so it depends on what the opportunities are," said UNC Charlotte political science professor Dr. Eric Heberlig.

McCrory supported Trump during the presidential election, appearing with him at campaign events in North Carolina, despite some calls for him to denounce the controversial Republican.

McCrory in October condemned Trump’s comments caught on tape in an unaired television interview about assaulting women, but said Trump would still be better for America than his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Trump appeared in North Carolina Tuesday night at a "thank you” rally in Fayetteville.

McCrory's office hasn't responded to Channel 9's questions about the meeting and whether it's about a specific job possibility.

Trump already had tapped South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as his choice for United Nations ambassador.
