Representative says Eastland Mall site, Independence Boulevard a priority

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — East Charlotte residents have a new City Council representative.

Charlotte Housing Commissioner Dimple Ajmera was appointed to the District 5 representative position.

She replaces John Autry, who is now a representative in the North Carolina House.

She said Autry mentored her to prepare her for the role.

“I'm very passionate about economic opportunities and upward mobility because I am an example of someone who came out of poverty,” Ajmera said. “So I want to make sure I provide the same opportunities to every single resident.”

Ajmera said her priorities are redevelopment of the Eastland Mall property and Independence Boulevard.

She said as of now she is not interested in running for the position in the November 2017.
