CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Wednesday’s approaching storm is expected to cause big problems in the North Carolina Mountains.
Officials in Caldwell County are taking steps to keep people safe. Firefighters told Channel 9 they'll be keeping an eye on water levels overnight, especially near bridges.
Channel 9 found several areas west of Lenoir where the Department of Transportation has pre-positioned road closure signs near areas prone to flooding.
At the Collettsville Fire Department, fire crews had their swift water rescue equipment out and ready to roll if they see any flash flooding in the Foothills during the next 36 hours.
Firefighters said they already received close to a half-inch of rainfall overnight and witnessed first-hand two weeks ago when the John's River rose close to two feet in about an hour, forcing the school district to send some children home early.
