Residents appalled after KKK flyers found in neighborhood

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Residents were appalled after Klu Klux Klan flyers were distributed in the Camron Woods neighborhood in Rowan County.

“I thought it was ridiculous,” resident Danita McAlpin said.

The flyers were from a group called the Loyal White Nights and featured derogatory images of black people.

"Wake up white America, blacks are taking over your town as you read this," one flyer read.

The flyers included information for contacting the KKK Knights.

“I thought this is 2018 and if stuff like this doesn't stop, it never will,” McAlpin said.

Some residents told the Rowan Sheriff’s Office that two white men wearing construction gear in a white pickup truck were distributing the flyers.

Deputies said that, so far, it is not labeled as a hate crime, but they want to find and question the people about their intent.

In the meantime, neighbors like McAlpin are hopeful those responsible will be found and this won’t happen again.

"Hopefully, it's a stupid prank and these people get punished for it,” McAlpin said. “If not, I hope it can end. It needs to end. It really does.”

The investigation continues and anyone with additional information can contact Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687 or Detective Patrick Schmeltzer at 704-216-8702.
