Road closed after car crashes into power pole near uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An accident just east of uptown that took down power lines has a busy Charlotte street closed Tuesday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers said that a car hit a power pole around 5:30 a.m. on Hawthorne Lane near Kennon Street, knocking power lines into the street.

Officers said the driver suffered minor injuries.

Police have closed Hawthorne from Kennon to Central Avenue as power crews make repairs and drivers are advised to avoid the area Tuesday morning.

The crash is still under investigation.
