Rock Hill student charged for sharing obscene photo of another student on social media

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A South Pointe High School student as young as 14 years old is facing criminal charges for illegally sharing obscene pictures of another student, according to Rock Hill police reports.

Reports show the incident happened Oct. 10 when a student claimed someone took a picture of him using the bathroom and then shared that picture on social media.

The school resource officer later reviewed the surveillance video.

Police said the resource officer spotted another student entering the bathroom and then leave holding a phone as he walked back to class.

The student, whose name has not been released because of his age, was identified and called to the office.

Police said the student admitted to the officer that he had taken the picture and sent it to a friend at another school.

The 14-year-old said he didn’t know to whom the other student forwarded the picture.

The mother of the 15-year-old victim told Channel 9 it’s bullying and says it's been traumatic for her son.

In addition to criminal charges, a spokesperson for Rock Hill Schools said the student is facing disciplinary action from the school.
