ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Rowan-Salisbury school officials confirmed they are looking into two suspected cases of impetigo, a highly contagious bacterial infection.
The district is encouraging parents to check their children for any symptoms of the skin infection.
If there are concerns, officials say parents should contact their children's school and their doctor.
This is a situation Channel 9 has been monitoring since Davidson County contacted the Rowan County Health Department, concerned students may have been exposed to the infection after recent football games between the schools.

The scare forced Rowan-Salisbury Schools to cancel two football games and its homecoming game at Salisbury High School.
The homecoming game was rescheduled for Monday night.
Early signs of impetigo appear around the mouth and nose as an itchy, reddish rash with blisters.
The infection is spread through skin contact or through contact with an object that an infected person has touched.
