Safe Alliance ready to return building to county

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After three decades, Safe Alliance is ready to return its southeast Charlotte building to Mecklenburg County.

Volunteers are cleaning up the domestic violence shelter on Billingsley Road in preparation.

Earlier this month, the women and children who lived there were moved elsewhere.

Coordinators said the building is an integral part of the group's history.

“We have had to get rid of 33 years of things, of history, so we have been going through it piece by piece, a lot of the furniture things we donate,” said Jane Taylor, Coordinator of Shelter Services.

The new Clyde and Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter will have enough space for 130 people.
