Salisbury art gallery vandalized, owner says she was targeted

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A small business owner told Channel 9 someone vandalized her art gallery and she thinks her activism may have led to it.

Sabrina Harris, owner of Vibes the Creative Arts Incubator, said someone threw a large rock through the window of her business. It happened hours after the city removed a Confederate statue from downtown -- a statue she rallied to have removed.

“When George Floyd died, a group of us started protesting. We did marches and things of that nature,” Harris said.

She said some other activists have also been targeted by vandalism and harassing phone calls.

“We are planning to come together to make a statement -- saying, ‘Whoever you are, we’re watching,‘” she said.

Regardless of the reason for the vandalism, Harris’ community has rallied behind her. They gave hundreds of dollars to a GofundMe account to help with repairs to her business.

“Where there may be a hateful few there’s a lot of love...and that makes me feel good,” Harris said.

Police said they are investigating the incident, but do not have any suspects at this point.
