Police: Teen shot in Salisbury, forces lockdowns at high school, college

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Salisbury High School and Livingstone College were placed on lockdown after a teenager was shot in the area, police said.

An officer told Channel 9 a teenager was chased and shot at the 1000 block on South Fulton Street in Salisbury.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, Myron Levonte Riley, 17, at a nearby coffee shot with a gunshot wound.

Riley, of Salisbury, ran into the business for assistance after being shot once in the back, police said.

Investigators said there was an argument moments before shots were fired.

Neighbor Jimmy Paul heard the shots while he was working on his home just a couple of houses away.

"I just heard 3 shots, 3 consecutive shots - pow, pow, pow - and it sounded real close," Paul said. "There's been a lot of shooting going on here lately. It's kind of scary. It's dangerous. Something needs to be done about it."

Riley was transported to Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center and then transferred by EMS to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for further treatment.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.

Both schools went into lockdown just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Salisbury High School was put on a precautionary code yellow lockdown. Code yellow means all doors must be locked and there are no outside activities.
