WASHINGTON — The Salisbury man inspired by a conspiracy theory to open fire in a Washington D.C. pizza shop pleaded guilty Friday morning.
Edgar Welch appeared in federal court and pleaded guilty to a federal charge of transporting a firearm and ammunition, as well as a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
He faces at least 18 months behind bars on each count.
Welch told police he went to Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in to investigate an internet conspiracy theory involving Democrats.
No one was hurt after he fired multiple shots inside the restaurant, which was the target of false rumors during the election.
