SC mother sentenced in baby girl's death

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — (AP) A Wellford mother who left her baby daughter unattended in a bath tub has been sentenced to four years in prison in the girl's death.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports that 22-year-old Mary Ann Williams was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.

Williams was originally charged with homicide by child abuse after her 10-month-old daughter, Aaliyah, was found unresponsive in a Spartanburg motel room in August 2012.

Emergency workers revived the girl, but she died in a hospital about a week later when she was taken off life support. Prosecutors say Williams left Aaliyah and another baby unattended in a bathtub while she watched television in another room.
