CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A security guard who shot and killed a man inside a north Charlotte club won't go to prison.
Gregory Spearman died at Club Lust on Atando Avenue in November 2016.
The shooter, Wade Mosley, was initially charged with murder but pleaded to lesser charges Thursday in court.
Mosley didn't say anything except to answer the judge's questions as he accepted a plea to felony obstruction of justice, which is a conviction that will put him on probation and not in prison.
Prosecutor Jody Anderson said there was a fight inside Club Lust that night, and that there's no question that Mosley had shot Spearman during the altercation.

She said that Mosley told police Spearman had grabbed him from behind and that he was afraid he could be killed. He fired the fatal shot but didn’t intend to kill Spearman.
Anderson also said Spearman's family isn't happy with the plea deal.
“I hope that every night you close your eyes and you see his face,” Spearman’s sister told Mosley in court. “That's what I hope for you. I don't forgive you, and I will never forgive you.”
Mosley's family was in court as well. They did not say anything, but his attorney said the situation is absolutely regrettable. Mosely felt he had no choice but to fire the shot to save his life, the attorney said.
