GASTONIA - The Gastonia Fire Department responded to a car accident with injuries just after 5 p.m. Saturday.
The incident involved one vehicle with one passenger, who authorities say struck a large utility pole while traveling.
Upon impact, the pole was snapped near the bottom, causing the pole to rest on the vehicle.
Firefighters removed the victim from the wreckage. The victim was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Rescue personnel were on the scene for 45 minutes.
