CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers were investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that shut down a road near the Cabarrus-Rowan county line Monday morning.
The wreck happened around 7 a.m. on Old Salisbury-Concord Road near Irish Potato Road.
Officials said a Ford F-150, driven by 18-year-old Brian Manring of Concord, was traveling west on Irish Potato Road.
Troopers said Manring made a left turn onto Old Salisbury-Concord Road, directly into the path of a tractor-trailer and was hit.
Troopers said after the initial impact, the pickup truck spun out of control and crashed into a car driven by a Huntersville police officer on his way to work.
Manring was killed in the crash.
Neighbors told Channel 9 turning off of Irish Potato Road can be very challenging.
"You kinda got to take a chance to go up from that hill because you can't see what's coming from the right, especially making a left," neighbor Lauren Dowd said.
Troopers told Channel 9 reporter Tina Terry the area has been a problem in the past.
Transportation officials said this crash will prompt them to investigate whether the intersection needs safety improvements.
