Sex offender arrested for coaching Mooresville youth football team

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Deputies arrested a registered sex offender Monday for coaching a youth football team in Mooresville.

Officials charged Kevin Concepcion, 33, with a statute that prevents registered sex offenders from volunteering with children.

Iredell County Deputy Craig Bess learned that Concepcion was coaching the Mooresville Hornets Midget Football Team.

Officials had already told Concepcion and the Football Commission that Concepcion was not allowed to coach a team of children.

Concepcion is registered for a 2003 conviction of misdemeanor sexual misconduct in Erie County, New York. He registered in Iredell County in 2015 when he moved.

Concepcion has a 2005 conviction in New York of second degree possession of a loaded weapon and a 2013 conviction of trafficking drugs in Ohio.

He surrendered himself to deputies and was given a $5,000 unsecured bond.
