LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. - Two kilos of cocaine were seized during an early morning traffic stop on Highway 321, north of High Shoals, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies stopped a vehicle around 1:30 a.m. They said a duffle bag with cocaine in it was in plain sight inside the vehicle. A pistol, cash and small amount of marijuana were also seized, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said the driver, 30-year-old Clifton Mason, tried to run from the scene but was stopped a short distance away.
Mason and Chad Beatty, 36, each face several charges, including trafficking in cocaine and possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine. Mason was also charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer and Beatty was charged with possession of marijuana, the sheriff’s office said.
Narcotics investigators said the cocaine would be valued at between $200,000 and $300,000 when broken down for street-level sale.
