Sheriff: 2 arrested after police chase in stolen car

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Deputies arrested five people after they crashed their vehicle after a police chase that started in Hickory and ended in western Lincoln County Thursday morning.

Hickory police officers were chasing the stolen car and called ahead to Lincoln County Sheriff's Office deputies as they approached the county line around 4 a.m.

Lincoln County deputies then found the car wrecked in a field on Lewis Road just off of Reepsville Road but the suspects had taken off on foot.

Around 8:45 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident on Daniels Road who said three people came up to his house and were sitting on the porch.

Deputies pulled up to the house and took three people into custody without incident and transported them to the Sheriff's Office. The other two suspects were located on the steps of a nearby church.

One suspect was arrested on a probation violation by Lincoln County deputies and a second suspect was taken into custody by Hickory police on a probation violation out of Catawba County. The other three were released without charges.

No names have been released and Hickory police are continuing the investigation.
