Sheriff: Deputy charged after 5-year-old son shot self

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — Deputy Sgt. Josh Beam was charged by the SBI with "failure to store a firearm to prevent access by a minor," a class one misdemeanor, according to the Anson County Sheriff's Office.
 
Beam's 5-year-old son shot himself in the ear two weeks ago.
 
Beam was served with a criminal summons by the SBI on Friday morning. A bond was not required.
 
Beam is a 10-year veteran with the Anson County Sheriff's Office and will remain on administrative leave until the matter is resolved, the sheriff stated.
