Shots fired into home hit man in buttocks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for the person who fired several shots into a 61-year-old man's north Charlotte home.

Officers were called out this weekend to the home on Misty Creek Drive just off Statesville Avenue.

The man doesn't know who would want to hurt him or why.

"You got to thank the Lord for anytime you've been saved from something," Ernest Wentz said.

Wentz said someone was watching over him when bullets came through the walls of his north Charlotte home this weekend.

Three hit his house and another hit his car.

Two came through his walls and one grazed his backside while he was watching TV on his couch late Friday night.

Wentz said he wasn't badly hurt and didn't need medical attention.

"When it hit me, the thing hit me and I fell on the floor. The first question was, 'Are they finished?'" he said.

He doesn't know who they were but their bullets left holes in his home and shattered the windshield of his car. He replaced it first thing this morning.

"Stuff really don't occur around here like that. Just out of nowhere," said Mario Smith, who lives nearby.

Crime is rare for this area off Statesville Road.

"I hear people on the news say 'not in my neighborhood' but you got to realize something's going to happen to anybody anywhere," Wentz said.

Police don't have a suspect and have not yet made any arrests but they are investigating the case.
