Skimming device discovered at South Tryon Street gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man tried to steal credit card information from customers Thursday at a 7-Eleven on South Tryon Street, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The store's manager said a worker discovered skimming devices on two pumps around 11:30 a.m. and called police.

Police said the accused thief returned to the gas station before they arrived.

Employees said the man was driving a U-Haul and tried to conceal the gas pumps with his truck's door. Police said the man tried to install another device, but he drove off when employees approached him.

Customers said they are glad that employees caught the devices before there were any more victims.

The devices have been removed from the pumps.

There have been no arrests.
