HICKORY, N.C. — A small 1.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded Monday morning near Hickory, according to officials with the United States Geological Survey.
According to USGS officials, the earthquake happened around 8:12 a.m. about 4 miles south of Hickory.

According to the USGS, events of a 2.0 magnitude or less are usually called microearthquakes and are not usually felt by people.
Channel 9 has not received any reports of damage.
