SHELBY, N.C. — A soldier returning home from Afghanistan gave his family quite the surprise at the Shelby Christmas parade this past weekend.
Spec. Walter Smith's family was watching the parade when the police chief stopped the parade, got out of his patrol car and said he had an early Christmas present for them.
He went back to his car and that is when Smith stepped out.
There were screams of joy from Smith's family.
