Soldiers at Charlotte-Douglas heading home for Christmas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 2,000 soldiers passed through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Thursday morning, heading home for the holidays.

They're in training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and will have two weeks to spend time with their families this Christmas.

Eyewitness News spoke to some soldiers who shared how much this break means to them.

"I'm looking forward to seeing my family," said one.

"I'm looking forward to seeing my girl and eating some good chow," said another.

A group of volunteers met the soldiers at the airport to serve them breakfast as they waited for their flights home.
