Some former Christenbury patients still waiting for records

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some patients said they're having trouble getting their records from former prominent Charlotte eye doctor Jonathan Christenbury.

Cathy Goodman had lens implants and said Christenbury did a great job.

She was Christenbury’s customer for more than a decade before he was accused of sexual harassment and medical malpractice.

He surrendered his license suddenly in December, claiming health reasons.

At the time, the North Carolina Medical Board said it was Christenbury's responsibility to give patients their records. He did set up an email and fax for those requests but some are still waiting.

"If I didn't have the eye surgery, it probably wouldn't bother me because any doctor can check your eyes and see what your vision is,” Goodman said. “But having the eye surgery, I would like them to be able to see what he did, what it was before, what results are after."

Action 9 investigator Jason Stoogenke emailed the Medical Board and it told him it's been in touch with Christenbury's attorney about patients' records.

The doctor's office has limited staff left to handle all of those requests and that they're going as fast as possible, but that it may take several months for people get their files, officials said.

"I don't feel good about that," Goodman said.

Three women filed sexual harassment lawsuits against Christenbury. A former patient also sued him saying cataract surgery Christenbury performed on her left her blind in one eye and that the eye had to be removed.

I Heart Media also took him to court claiming he owed more than $150,000 in advertising. At least one of those cases has been dismissed. Action 9 is checking on the others.

Christenbury filed for bankruptcy in January.
