South Charlotte shooting leaves one dead Saturday

CHARLOTTE — Homicide detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say a man was shot and killed in the 9000 block of Windsong Drive just after 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

"The officers responded and saw the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," Capt. Chris Dozier said. "The victim was pronounced dead at the scene."

The victim has not been identified, but Dozier says the victim and the gunman knew each other. Police did not have a suspect description Saturday night and said they were interviewing potential witnesses to gather more information.

Neighbors say this sort of incident is unusual for the area. Police would not confirm how many shots were fired, but neighbors told Eyewitness News they heard between six and seven.

"I mean it's kind of scary knowing somebody just got shot and killed two doors down from you," Carnesha Crawford, who lives nearby said. "We're kind of a little bit afraid."

According to a release from CMPD, "Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Real Time Crime Center, and the Vice and Gang Unit responded to the scene."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
