Speed, alcohol factors into deadly crash in northwest Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A driver was drunk and speeding Friday night when he ran off the road and crashed in northwest Charlotte, according to police.

Investigators said Michael Robert Kneepkens ran off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, drove several feet through the grass and crashed into two large trees. He died at the scene. Kneepkens was the only person in the car.

Police said Kneepkens was not wearing a seat belt.

Police are investigating the crash and are asking any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
