Spokesman: Billy Graham in Asheville hospital for respiratory problems

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Charlotte's most beloved pastor is back in the hospital.

His latest stay comes just two weeks after Rev. Billy Graham celebrated his 95th birthday in Asheville.

In Graham's hometown of Montreat, neighbors told Channel 9 they knew something was wrong when emergency vehicles went to his home Tuesday night.

Several people told reporter Dave Faherty they were already aware that Graham had been hospitalized.

A spokesperson for Graham told Channel 9 he was hospitalized for respirator congestion issue, similar to what he had a few weeks ago.

Graham was taken to Mission Hospital before his 95th birthday celebration but recovered in time for the party at the Grove Park Inn that attracted nearly 800 people.

Faherty talked to a woman from nearby Black Mountain who said that Graham visited her store.

She is hopeful for a quick recovery.

"Billy has had such a profound effect on so many lives for so many decades and I think hem means so much to everyone and I just wish him the best," said resident Tamara Bacon.

Channel 9 has not been able to get an update on his condition, but a spokesperson with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said they expect him to be in the hospital for a day or two.
