State investigation involving hot sauce focuses on 2 prison guards

NORTH CAROLINA — Two prison guards are now the main focus of a state investigation over the treatment of prisoners.

Six North Carolina inmates claim that guards forced them to run habanero hot sauce on their private parts.

The two guards at the center of the criminal investigation work at Sampson Correctional Institution near Clinton in eastern N.C.

The facility's warden and another staffer were placed on paid leave earlier this month.

A third staff member resigned.
