State leaders from both political parties will push for fair voting maps Tuesday in North Carolina.
Democratic Rep. Chaz Beasley and former Rep. Charles Jeter, a Republican, have both represented District 92 in Mecklenburg County.
North Carolina is in the middle of a legislative redistricting battle that has made it all the way to the supreme court.
On Monday, former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch called North Carolina ground zero for the voting rights battle.
"We continue to see with the judicial review of our state's gerrymandering scheme, its efforts to literally silence the voices of half the state,” Lynch said. “North Carolina has also done that."
Democrats have complained Republicans drew the districts to benefit themselves.
North Carolina's congressional districts are also at the center of a supreme court battle.
