Statesville police chief to address city council on efforts to cut crime

STATESVILLE. N.C. — Statesville Police Chief Joe Barone is scheduled to speak in front of the city council Monday night and discuss his department’s latest efforts to cut down on crime.

Barone told council members last month that the department is refocusing its efforts on community policing and officer accountability.

Community leaders have recently expressed concerns about violence in the city.

Earlier this month, a 9-year-old girl and two of her family members were hurt as bullets ripped through their home on Caldwell Street. The incident happened amid a series of shootings across Statesville, which police said they believe are connected.

Last week, someone fired shots into a business on East Broad Street.

No arrests have been made in the cases.
