Storms heading for Charlotte, but weekend beautiful and fall-like

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sunshine and more heat are in the forecast for Wednesday.

Severe Weather Team 9 meteorologist John Ahrens said the temperature will hover around 90 degrees Wednesday afternoon, but temperatures can feel hotter with the humidity.

A line of thunderstorms over the mountains and northern foothills has formed, and these storms will likely stay contained to those areas.

The threat for lightning closer to Charlotte is very low.

Thursday, Charlotte will see one more hot afternoon because the heat and humidity will make it feel over 90 degrees.

Thunderstorms are possible for Charlotte with the top threats being lightning and heavy rain.

Starting on Thursday night, a powerful cold front will be moving through.

Saturday and Sunday is expected to have temperatures in the 70s.

Hurricane Humberto has strengthened slightly and now has 80 mile per hour winds, but will weaken later this weekend.

The forecast is for the storm to stay out to sea.
