Storms to return Sunday with threats of flooding, heavy rain

Thunderstorms will be returning to the area Sunday.

After a break from storms on Friday, there will be only a few storms around the area Saturday and most are far from Charlotte, according to Severe Weather Center 9 meteorologist John Ahrens.

The front responsible for Friday's trouble hasn't gone far, and will be a key player for thunderstorms Sunday. The best time for rain will be around noon. Top threats will be flooding and heavy rain with lightning.

Rain chances will remain high until next week. Ahrens said it doesn't look like it will settle down until Wednesday. Most storms will come in the afternoon.

Active weather will at least keep temperatures down, Ahrens said. It is close to the 90s this weekend, but cooler in the mid-80s Sunday and for the rest of the week.
