Street closures begin Thursday for Taste of Charlotte festival

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina's largest food festival is returning for its 19th year in uptown Charlotte.

The Taste of Charlotte is a three-day festival starting Friday that features 100 samples of food from restaurants across the area. There will also be games for children, art and jewelry at the MarketPlace and live entertainment on the Center Stage.

The event brought in about 130,000 visitors in 2016.

Crews will start shutting down streets in uptown Charlotte to prepare for the festival.

Closures on Thursday, June 8:

  • Tryon Street from Stonewall to 5th Street will close at 9 a.m.
  • Trade Street from Church to College streets will close at 9 a.m.
  • Cross streets of Levine, MLK, 3rd and 4th streets will close at 6 p.m. but will reopen from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for rush hour traffic

Closures on Friday, June 9 through the weekend:

  • Tryon Street between Stonewall and 5th Street
  • Levine Avenue of the Arts from Tryon to Church streets
  • MLK Boulevard from College to Church streets
  • 3rd Street from College to Church streets
  • 4th Street from College to Church streets
  • Trade Street from College to Church streets

All streets will reopen in time for the Monday morning rush hour.
