Student struck, killed by car outside Lancaster school

LANCASTER, S.C.,None — A high school student was struck and killed by a car outside a school in Lancaster.

Police said Seth Austin Muennich, 14, was killed after being struck by a car while walking across the street in front of the school on N. Rocky River Road.

Muennich was a ninth-grader boy at Buford High School and played on the junior varsity football team.

The team canceled Thursday night's game.As many as 20 grief counselors will be at the high school Friday to help students.

The school will hold a moment of silence at the beginning of the day and before the varsity football game.

Friends told Eyewitness News that Muennich bought food from a restaurant across the street from the school and was walking back when the car hit him.

Buford High School principal Jonathan Phipps described Muennich as a straight A student and a wonderful young man. He said Muennich was involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The school posted the following message on its website:

"The BHS family mourns one of own with the passing of Seth Austin Muennich. We thank you as a community for your support shown to our students, faculty, administrators, counselors and staff. The BHS family also remembers Seth's family at this time.

Troopers said driver Danny Deese hit Muennich.

They are still investigating the crash and haven't decided whether there will be any charges.

Chopper 9 flew over the scene that showed a white car that was involved in the accident. The car's windshield was heavily damaged.
