Surveillance video captures teen shot, killed near South End

CHARLOTTE — Surveillance video captured a teen minutes before he was shot and killed outside Carriage Square on Old Pineville Road in south Charlotte Friday night.

The video shows the victim walking into a convenience store at 10:36 p.m. He then exits the store with a bag, gets onto his bike and rides away. Minutes later the teen was shot and killed.

"My husband told me the guy asked for help," said Dina Cisneros, who owns a restaurant at the shopping center. "He said the guy asked for help after he was shot."

Cisneros said many people rushed outside after hearing the gunshots.

"One customer, a woman, said she saw two suspects run away from the scene," said Cisneros.

The suspects were gone before police arrived.  Investigators struggled to identify the victim and have asked for the public's help in the case.

After viewing the surveillance video, Channel 9 showed the victim's picture to residents in a nearby neighborhood and found one woman who said he lived with her on Cherrycrest Lane.

"I'm in shock," said the woman, who didn't want to be identified.  "I can't believe it. I'm just in shock."

The woman said she met the victim five months ago.  She said he didn't have any family in the area and needed a place to stay.

"He had been renting a room in my house for the past five months," said the woman.  "He was so quiet.  I just can't believe it. He was a good boy."
