CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A portion of Ballantyne Commons Parkway was blocked early Monday after a suspected drunken driver collided with a utility pole, bringing down power lines.
The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. on Ballantyne Commons Parkway near Quail Acres Road and police blocked the lanes in each direction. The road reopened around 5:45 a.m.
At the scene, Channel 9 reporter Mark Barber could see the pole that was smashed into and power lines draped across the roadway.
The car had come to rest in a ditch nearby.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged the driver with DWI. His name has not been released.
Duke Energy has been called to fix the pole.
