Man, woman out of Wisconsin arrested after 5-hour standoff in York Co.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A man and a woman surrendered and were arrested Monday night after a five-hour long SWAT standoff at a home on Catawba Church Road in York County.

Deputies said they assisted the U.S. Marshals Office with a warrant service when the suspects wanted out of Wisconsin, Jamaal Lee and Emily Johns, refused to come out and barricaded themselves inside a mobile home.

“When you go into an unknown situation where somebody barricades themselves into a home like that and you don’t know what’s going to happen, that’s when you take every precaution necessary to figure out what their intentions are and apprehend them as safely as you can,” said Trent Faris, public information officer with the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Catawba Church Road was closed from Springdale Road to Beachwood Road for the investigation.

A nearby daycare with Catawba Baptist Church kept children sheltered in place, but officials said parents were able to pick their children up.

Officials said the duo is accused of a robbery in Madison, Wisconsin. They had a toddler in the back seat of the getaway car, officials said.

The child was not in the home during the standoff. No injuries were reported.
