SWAT standoff ends in northeast Charlotte; 1 man in custody

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A SWAT team responded to a standoff Monday morning in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood.

Officers went to a home on Concordia Avenue off of North Graham Street, where they said Lavarchio Allen, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery, lived.

Police said the Allen broke into a home Monday morning on Prospect Drive, pulled a gun on the person inside the home and threatened him.

They attempted to make contact with him, but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Police evacuated some people from their homes as a precaution.

Members of the SWAT team and negotiators were brought in to make contact with Allen.

He surrendered and was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. after a brief standoff.
